The year is coming to an end, and what better way to recap than a GIF story? (It’s 2014, you should know what a GIF is) Selfies, arrests, butts… it’s been quite the year. So, grab a drink and let’s take a few minutes to reflect on some of our favorite pop culture memories from 2014.

Kim Kardashian had a goal to #BreakTheInternet and she succeeded. I am waiting for a MoMA exhibit featuring all the memes of Kim’s butt. They are truly worsk of modern art. Butts seem to be a common theme across 2014. ♫ My Anaconda don’t. ♫

Taylor Swift Releases “1989”
1989 is one of the best pop albums released this year. I said it. This album is pretty great. With over 1.3 million in first-week sales, 1989 is Taylor’s fourth consecutive #1 album. Start with “Style”, it’s a bop.

Pharrell’s Hat
Pharrell dominated the charts this year with his hit song “Happy” (Four Grammy wins this year!) but even more recognizable was his hat. Never has a hat been so iconic. Oh, wait…

Justin Bieber’s DUI Arrest


Oh Justin… what are we going to do with you? We’ve watched you go from teen heartthrob to one of America’s Most Hated. There was even a whitehouse.gov petition this year asking for his deportation. I hope he cleans up his act though. He does make some pretty good music. Dear Justin, don’t drink and drive.

Kimye Wedding


Kim Kardashian and Kanye West tied the knot this May. So far this marriage has lasted about 5,000 days… which is a lot longer than 72.

Beyonce & Jay-Z Split?

Beyonce is full of mystery and I love it. Was she ever really pregnant? Is she apart of the “Illuminati”? Are the divorce rumors true, or was it just a publicity stunt? We will never know. These Beyonce conspiracy theories don’t seem to end, but they are all very entertaining.

Solange In The Elevator
We do not know what sparked this altercation with Jay Z, but to me it seems like Solange had a Caroline Manzo “Let me tell you a-somethin’ about my family…” moment and snapped. At least everyone made it out of the elevator with their legs intact.

Rihanna Deletes Her Instagram – But Returns!
In May Instagram removed Rihanna’s account because “she violated the anti-nude policy”.

Instagram later reinstated the account, but an aggravated Rihanna was over it. She rebelled and deleted her account herself. However this November bagalriri returned! I am glad she still has her stick-figure avatar. If she’s returned to Instagram, does that mean she will be returning to the music charts soon too? I hope so.

People’s Sexiest Man Alive

Sigh, he’s not. People.com crowned Chris Hemsworth 2014’s Sexiest Man Alive. (My pick would have been Nick Jonas but I’m biased) Why is Chris wearing a shirt in the photoshoot though?

The Michael Jackson Hologram
MJ “performed” a new single at the Billboard Music Awards this year in hologram form.

It was horrifying. However, in 30 years I would probably pay to watch holograms of my favorite pop divas perform in concert so I can’t really judge.

Ebola

We’re all going to die. Just kidding! … I hope. Luckily the temporary hysteria has subsided and all seems to be back to normal.

The Winter Olympics
Sports? What are those?

Sochi, Russia was host to this year’s Winter Olympics. The games seemed to be overshadowed this year by several controversies, but fortunately the US team arrived home safely with a total of 28 medals!

I understand that this was for charity but I would be happy to never see one of these videos in my Facebook feed ever again. Actually… I have an idea! Weird Al is a thing again?
In all honestly I’ve never listened to a Weird Al song. Have you? But this July, after 30 years on the music charts, Weird Al finally earned his first ever Number 1 album on the Billboard Chart. Congratulations, Al!

Beyonce’s 16 Minute VMA Medley


Beyonce wowed the audience at the 2014 Video Music Awards with a 16 minute 15-song medley of songs (has this ever been done before?!) from her latest album BEYONCE. The best part of the performance? Blue Ivy dancing along in the audience.

Shia LaBeouf’s Red Carpet bag-wearing appearance
Shia LaBeouf arrived to a Berlin press conference wearing a paper bag over his head that read “I AM NOT FAMOUS ANYMORE”. Why wear a bag? I don’t get it.

A “Conscious Uncoupling”
Gwnetyh Paltrow and Chris Martin announced a “conscious uncoupling” which seems like a fancy way of saying… a divorce. The split was amicable and the “uncoupled” couple seems to be happy.

Solange’s Wedding
On November 16th, Solange Knowles married her director beau Alan Ferguson. How gorgeous were her wedding photos? Her wedding dress was impeccable, and everyone looked absolutely stunning.

It seems that the overall consensus awards “Fancy” by Iggy Izealea as 2014’s Song of the Summer. “Who dat? Who dat?” I disagree with this however, because in my opinion Countess Luann’s “Chic Cest La Vie” will always be my go-to poolside summer anthem.

This was one of the saddest moments of 2014. Joan Rivers was a trailblazer for women, and a true comedy legend. RIP Joan. 😦

Kardashian: The Game

As if we don’t get enough of the Kardashian from selfies, TV shows, magazine covers, Instagram, red carpets, etc. we now have a video game. Yes… I downloaded it. Yes, you probably did too. AND I LOVED IT. Ugh. Can I now call myself a “gamer”?

It’s Britney, Bitch!
Pop superstar Britney Spears kicked off her 2 year Las Vegas Residency. The show is full of hair flips, sexy shirtless dancers, and many greatest hits such as “I’m Slave 4 U” and “Gimme More”. A must-see for any Britney fan.

Ariana Grande
On a high note, the pop singer scored another #1 album with her release “My Everything” in June. However, she cannot seem to escape the Mariah Carey comparisons (the voice, having a “right” and “wrong” side, etc.) and numerous diva allegations. Maybe her ponytail is “squeezing her brain too tight”? That was a NeNe reference for you. I’ll stick to my Mariah #1’s album, thank you.

Ellen Degeneres breaks Obama’s record for the Most Retweets

Ellen broke Twitter, literally, when her star-studded Oscars selfie went live and received over one million retweets in an hour. This famous selfie included many Hollywood stars including Jennifer Lawrence, Channing Tatum, Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts and Angelina Jolie. Love me, love me, please retweet.

The Comeback Makes A Comeback

The Comeback is BACK! Even more exciting was the appearances by Andy Cohen and Lisa Vanderpump in the Season 2 premiere.

Frozen

The obsession with “Frozen” carried over strong into 2014. Or in other words, “Let the storm rage ONNNNNNNNN.” Let It Go. Literally… let. it. go.

And that’s a wrap for 2014. Bring on the new year!

2015… New albums from Rihanna and Maddona? World Peace? Will another Housewife release a single? “Minions” and “Jurrasic World” will hit the movie theaters next Summer. I am sure there will be something else from the Kardashians that we will all roll our eyes at, but secretly love. I’m ready for it.

Bethenny Returns to RHONY

2014 has been a difficult year for Bethenny between her divorce and talk show cancellation. But in much more positive news, Bethenny Frankel has decided to return to The Real Housewives of New York! I love a good Housewives comeback. Know what else I’m hoping for next season? A return to “Scary Island”. Make it happen, Andy.
